Ambergris Tincture in Cigarettes

Whale Poop To Rat Poison — What Is Cigarette Made Of?

Ambergris Tincture in Cigarettes

The cigarette is probably the greatest success story of advertisement. In the earlier 20th century, the print was the primary medium for adverts. Then it was introduced to films and stories.

Haven’t we all been impressed by that handsome male lead smoking fumes making him all the more attractive? And that’s how a tobacco roll pierced our psyche as an ‘epitome’ of intelligence and coolness.

What Is Cigarette Made Of?

No, cigarette is not just tobacco rolled in paper. That is more closer to what Indians would call a ‘bidi’. So what exactly is your cigarette made of?

In fact your cigarette has about six hundred – yes you read it right – ingredients. The ingredients of a cigarette are broadly this – the paper to be rolled into, the blend of tobacco, with a cigarette tube, filter and butt. With that additives are added.

Related: Do You See The Same Colours As Everyone Else

Some of these ingredients of a cigarette are commonly found in a home. Acetone is an ingredient to it and it is a component in nail polish removers. Ammonia is also there which is a chemical used in cleaners. Lead as we all know is a must in batteries is also a must in cigarettes.

Naphthalene which is common household item to get rid of insects is also added to it. Nicotine, which makes tobacco so popular is a very effective insecticide and pesticide. Tar is also added to cigarette. We usually know tar as a road paving material.

Arsenic or rat poison is unfortunately used so that your cigarette gives you a good smoking experience.

Apart from these, cigarettes also have some weirdly interesting ingredients in it.

Ambergris is a strange cigarette composition

Cigarette are surely made of weird stuff right from lead to arsenic. But some stuff get weirder. Most smokers do not know that some of the cigarette ingredients are derived from animal manure, horse, cat and whales.

It is true that the hundreds of ingredients that you enjoy in one puff, one of those is whale poop, better known as ambergris.

Ambergris is a very valuable commodity. In 2016, an 80-kg block of ambergris was found by some fishermen in Oman. It was sold for USD 3 million. Ambergris is highly sought after by perfume makers.

Ambergris tincture is also needed to make cigarettes. Some would prefer to call it whale vomit, debating from which side the whale has got rid of it. Ambergris is actually the excretion, and/or vomit of the huge sperm whale.

These huge mammals eat up a lot of food but only a fraction of it is released as ambergris. Ambergris is produced in their intestines. It smells foul and is blackish in colour. It usually washes up on the surface or in the shores. With the loss of water it becomes whitish and gives a pleasant smell. The item is then used in musky scents and very expensive perfumes.

Ambergris is used in cigarette because its scent stays for a long time. It helps to ward off the smells of the chemicals that are released during its burning.

More weird cigarette compositions

In August 2014 in UK, an illegal cigarette trader was arrested. He had been selling in the black market. Since it came without tax, it was cheaper and hence quite in demand. The mirror.co.

uk reported that upon inspection by the authorities, human excrement and rat droppings were found among the cigarettes’ components.  Other samples have also shown the use of dead flies and asbestos.

Can you say if your cigarette does not have any? Think again.

A survey showed that a lot of cigarette that you buy may actually be counterfeit and sans any quality control. A Switzerland based organization, MS Intelligence found out that at least 30.

9% of cigarette packets in the market were not genuine. That means one third of the cigarettes contain horrible components human waste.

Studies have shown that these bogus cigarettes also have plastic and even blood, of animals and of humans.

13,000 packets of counterfeit cigarettes were busted in Birmingham, UK in one month. Scotland Yard has warned that criminals are shifting from hard drugs to counterfeit cigarettes because detection rate is difficult and punishment is less severe.

Why are there so many chemicals in cigarettes?

Ask a smoker and he will tell you a lot about a good smoke and flavour of the cigarettes. Each brand is supposed to give the smoker something ‘different’.

Cigarette manufacturers have to use more than 600 ingredients to make one roll of it. They have to add all the additives, then items for the blending and more to make a cigarette. Some of these ingredients are safe whereas some are absolutely not. That is why the brands have to put warning labels.

When all these 600 ingredients burn, chemicals are released due to reaction. sounds unbelievable but the fact is that one burning cigarette creates more than 7,000 chemicals. According to www.lung.org, at least 69 are carcinogenic, that is these cause cancer. Many more of these are harmful to health.

What most people also do not know that radioactive materials Uranium are present in your tobacco.  As you smoke, these radioactive materials are released in the atmosphere and in your lungs.

This is the most dangerous component and this is why smokers are prone to lung cancer. Some components are also are fungicides and pesticides.

Stuff nickel, cadmium and formaldehyde are enemies of the lungs.

Interestingly the first doctors to recognize the ill effects of smoking were the Germans during the Nazi regime. They were the first to acknowledge the link of cancer to tobacco and the anti tobacco steps happened.

Doctors also found out how nicotine addicts heroin. After nicotine smoke is inhaled, it takes 6 seconds for it to reach our brain. At first, nicotine acts as a stimulant in the brain. It makes us feel good.

In regular and more doses, this same nicotine starts acting as a depressant. The function of the nerve cells go down. The tar in the cigarette forms a sticky mass in the lungs.

The carbon mono oxide makes it hard for the red blood cells to do their job.

In fact as addicts say, nicotine addiction is more difficult to let go of than heroin addiction.

Ambergris Perfumes – History, smell and benefits

Ambergris Tincture in Cigarettes

By Md. Minhajul Alam, Certified Naturopath, Writer, and Trainer

Ambergris, which comes from the sperm whale, is one of the most sought-after and valuable raw ingredients in perfumery. It’s exclusively rare, and the smell it emanates is simply as rare with no analogs.

Ambergris is not the only animal substance used in the perfumery industry. Musk is derived from the sheath of the rare musk deer, Castoreum is collected from the beavers’ sacs, and Civet comes from the civet cats’ anal glands.

What is ambergris?

Ambergris, also known as grey amber or whale vomit, is a waxy solid material produced in the gastrointestinal tract of the sperm whale. Whales regurgitate it through the mouth when it becomes too large and difficult to pass through the gut.

Fresh ambergris is soft and blackish or dull grey in color. It has an undeniable odor. Ambergris has been used in potions, medicines, and perfumes for centuries. As ambergris ages, it acquires a unique sweet and earthy scent, making it one of the costliest resources in the perfumery industry.

What does ambergris smell ?

One of the easiest ways to identify ambergris is its smell. When released by the whales, it possesses an unagreeable strong marine and fecal smell. But when it floats on the oceanic streams for many years, the oxidation process changes its color and smell, transforming the fecal lump into an ambergris ocean treasure.

With age, ambergris acquires a unique pleasant smell which is often described as marine, leathery, sensual, and sometimes mysteriously musky. The longer it is aged, the sweeter the fragrance is believed to be.

History of ambergris

Ambergris has been historically known for its significant use in making perfumes and fragrances. It has also been used in delicious food and drink. King Charles II of England’s favorite dish was ambergris with eggs.

In the 18th century, ambergris has been widely used for flavoring hot chocolate and Turkish coffee in Europe. It has been used as an aphrodisiac agent in many cultures.

In ancient Egypt, ambergris was burned as incense, while modern Egyptians use it for scenting cigarettes.

In ancient China, ambergris was called “dragon’s spittle fragrance”. In Europe, during the Middle Ages, ambergris has been used as a medicine for treating colds, headaches, and epilepsy.

In Early Arab civilizations, ambergris has been used as an aphrodisiac, incense, and medication to treat a number of ailments especially those of the heart, brain, and emotions.

Benefits of ambergris

From early days, ambergris was a highly desired substance in the East as a natural healing agent. Medieval apothecaries suggested and utilized ambergris for its tremendous healing powers.

In the Indian Materia Medica, ambergris was listed as an aphrodisiac and stimulant. Therefore, this wonderful substance has been widely used in Indian traditional medicine (Ayurveda) and the Unani system of medicine for treating weakness, fever, typhoid, epilepsy, hysteria, and many other nervous disorders and mental-emotional afflictions by combining with other medicinal herbs.

Why is whale vomit so rare?

Whale vomit or ambergris is a very unusual and rare substance. Ambergris takes years to form inside the digestive system of the sperm whale and is occasionally expelled through the mouth. Since a special organ is required to synthesize ambergris, it is produced only by an estimated 1% of sperm whales.

Once released by a sperm whale, ambergris vomiting floats on the sea streams for years before landing on the coastlines. Besides, sperm whales or ambergris whales are considered a threatened species. Due to the legal ambiguity and very rare chances of finding this aromatic animal resource, Ambergris became exclusively rare.

Why is whale vomit so expensive?

Ambergris, also known as whale vomit, is considered the floating gold or the treasure of the ocean and is sometimes called ambergris ocean. This precious material is only formed in the stomach of the ambergris sperm whale and only one percent of them can produce this substance which is rarely vomited by the endangered animal.

Besides, many countries introduced laws banning this substance from trading.  Because of the rarity and high demand in the perfume and medicine market, ambergris commands a premium price, making it one of the most valuable animal resources in the world.

Is ambergris illegal?

During the 1800s, the whaling industry significantly prospered and a large number of whales including ambergris sperm whales were killed for whalebone and oil to make profits. As a result, sperm whales soon became an endangered species.

Although ambergris is a waste product excreted by the sperm whale naturally, and not harvested by killing whales, very few countries banned ambergris for trading as a part of the general ban on the hunting of the species.

But since ambergris, has been naturally expelled by sperm whales other waste products such as feces and urine, it is therefore not covered by the animal protection provisions and its trading is legal in most of the countries such as the United Kingdom, Maldives, Switzerland, France, and New Zealand.

Ambergris in perfumery

Ambergris has historically been used in creating fine perfumes. Ambergris perfumes are still in high demand for their very unique sweet, leathery, and marine- fragrance.

The knowledge of making perfumes using ambergris has been kept secret for thousands of years. The famous Muslim scholar and traveler Ibn Battuta also wrote about ambergris and their exclusive value in pre-modern history.

Ambergris perfume blends

Ambergris is an animal pheromone and works well with several natural perfume oils such as oud, sandalwood, rose, and jasmine. all animal pheromones, it shows significant effects on hormonal activities, making it a very popular aphrodisiac for men and an infertility cure for women.

Our ethical measures

All our ambergris perfumes are created using original animal resources without killing, torturing, or imprisoning the endangered animal. These aromatic substances are expelled by the sperm whales naturally and washed up on coastlines after floating many years on the sea streams.
